first of all welcome to the forum...
now for your question... what do you mean short? as in short short?? or hindi pa down to the floor and coat? genetics has a lot to do with coat... another factor may be napuputol yung coat during grooming.... it has happened to me... dapat down to the floor na ang hair ng tzu ko but since naiwan sa maid... naputol and i had to start from scratch...
often times tzus coats would be down to the floor between 9-12 months old... others grow slower though... others mas fast...

maybe your right bka nasa genes. hindi pa down to the floor ang hair nya, unlike to others nga na wala pang 1 yr old mahaba na ang hair. do you think cutting it short to start all over again will help? oh i forgot to tell you na he doesnt like dog food na, so i give him table foods. that's another problem kasi i want him to eat dog food again.

oh.. gradual transition from table food to dog food should be done... if you are giving quality dog food, it usually meets the dietary needs of the dog and promotes good coat growth.
i won't advise cutting your dog down and start over again.. it will take you well over a year to grow coat back.. baka naman pwede pang isave yan...dapat tama ang pag suklay.

tama, genes talaga.
Look at the parents' coat, then you'll have a pretty good idea of what it's pups coat will be like.

Shih Tzu coat is genetic pero pwede mo naman pahabain tlga yan.
Y?
One of the main feature of a shih tzu is having full coat. Some coat grows fast, some slow, some thin, some thick
in short iba iba tlga.
There is actually no secret in growing but there are skills to learn to make the coat grow nice.
proper brushing, proper bathing and proper feeding...
i almost forgot, proper LOVE.

thanks. i've seen his parents & they have long & nice coats... . i think im gonna make him eat dog food again, i guess hindi enough ang nutrients na nakukuha nya sa table foods. Is pedigree canned food ok?

i would not advise an all canned diet... hindi balanced yun. it would be nice ifyou can get a dry dog food of good quality na complete ang nutrients. then if you still like to feed canned food, at night siguro haluan mo ng konti yung dry food.

coat supplements...
mishi
commercial brands that are specially made for dogs are coat shine, mira coat, etc.
you also use vit e, cod liver oil, fish liver oil, brewers yeast.
use the above supplements in moderation since maliliit ang mga alaga natin.
personally, i have tried coat shine, vit e, cod liver oil, salmon oil, and brewers yeast, each administered once or twice a week lang, except for the brewers yeast, but i didn't see any stunning results. ok lang.

ay, the above-mentioned supplements are mainly for shinier coats.
using more conditioner during bath time helps a lot in making their hair shiny and tangle-free ( well, not really tangle free, but less tangles ;D)
