A private email was sent to me by a DTO'er and a member of this forum asking about a couple of things. I thought I would answer it here just in case some people have the same questions etc..
ALWAYS BUY FROM A REPUTABLE BREEDER, temperament is usually hereditary, dogs that bite usually have parents that bite, BUT it can also be that she did not receive enough socialization. I DO NOT think your shih tzu is only play biting. I believe part of the reason she is so aggressive is because she is caged and ALONE in a room for 12 hours or more STRAIGHT!
I DO NOT think a shih tzu should be penned that long STRAIGHT! They can be penned for short periods of time but not from AM to 10PM! If you want your shih tzu to be kinder and gentler let her out and do not leave her alone in a cage in your room the whole day, why are you caging her anyway? I have a LOT of dogs and they are NOT penned. Only those in coat are penned and they are OUT a couple of times a day and get to romp and play.
Clusivol is fine, if you are OVERDOSING she will have diarrhea and vomit! 2ml a day is more than enough.
Shih tzu hair is naturally glossy, If your shih tzu has DRY stringy hair have her tested for SG (urine) if the result is 1,010 I suggest a blood test for creatinine, etc if these are elevated, it could be RD. If you just want show day glossy, it cannot be achived without a lot of products the reason shih tzu hair is so gloassy at shwo day is ebcause the hair is ironed and a lot of products put on the coat.
Posing? you have a pet not a show dog, why bother teaching her to pose, buy a show dog, and we will talk about this.
Good show dog you ask, read the breed standard. BUY froma shwo person, your shih tzu is NO show dog, you bought from a BYB, someone who breeds and does not show. Ask from show people, REPUTABLE ONES, not all people who show is reputable
Your dog bite, I DO NOT know why you are so worried, I would not worry... But then you bought from aperson who I do not consider to be reputable so MAYBE you should worry.
Let me put it this way, if you bought a puppy from a reputable breeder, and it accidentally bit you before it got Rabies shots and the shih tzu was never exposed to any rabid animals at your house you HAVE NOTHING to worry about!
If you bought from a breeder that is not reputable... Oh well...../color]
